Skillful Conversation: How to Talk About Things that Matter

The Organization Workshop: Creating Partnerships
We are proud to offer Barry Oshry’s highly-acclaimed experiential organization workshop. Oshry’s work has developed over the last 40 years to culminate in a session that re-creates the dynamics of a typical system—and the usual barriers, pitfalls and behaviors that exist between tops, middles, bottoms and customers. A leadership development cornerstone for organizations such as Boeing and Microsoft, this workshop enables one to understand the systemic conditions that drive behavior. As certified trainers, we lead individuals to create empowering "stands" for themselves in order to leverage relationships in ways that contribute to all parts of the system. Day one is the laboratory itself, with an optional half-day on day two for debriefing and action planning. This workshop is extremely useful when "silos" have become entrenched inside organizations and new ways of working across boundaries need to be created. testimonials and a video excerpt >>Myers-Briggs Teambuilding
This lively session helps teams understand the value of their individual differences and their team’s strengths and weaknesses regarding 1) decision-making, 2) communication, 3) work execution and 4) conflict resolution—and what they can do to achieve better results. Pre-steps include individual MBTI assessments and the option of individual coaching either before or after the workshop. Each team member receives an in-depth report describing the team’s profile plus their own MBTI profile in relation to the team. In 2007, this workshop, including individual coaching for each leader, was enthusiastically received by Royal Dutch Shell’s Downstream IT Business Applications division, including 90+ leaders across 5 continents. one company's experience with Myers-Briggs Teambuilding. >>
Coaching for Performance
This workshop introduces the characteristics of effective coaching and feedback, giving real-life examples from which leaders role-play how to handle common obstacles to providing effective feedback for changed performance. It may include videotaping of the participants for optimal learning.
Coaching, Giving and Receiving Feedback I
Basics about giving feedback and coaching are presented in this session, particularly geared toward operations supervisors. Role-plays are used to practice the skills, and videotapes by Peter Quarry are shown to highlight dos and don’ts of feedback. This workshop was enthusiastically received by managers and supervisors throughout Pulitzer Inc, including Newsroom editors and production supervisors.
Coaching, Giving and Receiving Feedback II
This advanced session focuses on more difficult employee feedback situations: when they cry, get angry, disagree and/or refuse to accept the accuracy of the performance feedback. Videotapes are also used in this session.
Organizing, Managing and Delegating the Work (for team leaders and supervisors)
This one-day session is designed to help managers identify the core purpose of their team or project. From there, they discover key work priorities, how to organize around those priorities and how to organize their people to achieve key results. It includes a walk-through of various models and templates that managers can use following the session.
Strategic Planning for Teams
A customized workshop for leaders and their teams, this session focuses upon closing the gap between the "current state" and the "desired future state" in relation to marketplace data and internal strategic goals. Feedback from staff, customers and other stakeholders is sometimes gathered as a starting point. Usually held offsite, this two-day session provides a facilitated structure for leadership teams to determine their strategies for achieving business goals.
Managing Others Through Change
This one-day workshop introduces leaders to the William Bridges' model of change and transition. It focuses leaders on understanding how to manage the reactions and behaviors of staff during periods of organizational transition. In order to add concrete practicality, it can include 1) role-plays on how to handle typical behaviors at times of downsizing and/or heightened emotions and/or 2) specific planning on change steps.
Creative Collaboration
This half-day session introduces five light and fun approaches to collaborating across boundaries using improvisational theatre techniques and concepts. A lively and participative workshop, it provides a non-threatening prelude to addressing organizational/departmental conflicts and setting new norms about how to work more effectively together.
